"It was eclecticism employed in the service of the continuum of the music. A continuum the dazzling Tri-C [Jazz]Fest both celebrated and joyously expanded. What more could you ask of a jazz festival?" -All About JazzREAD MORE HERE
"After a 2020 season of virtual performances, the festival returned to an all-star, in-person lineup this year. Ten mainstage acts made up the schedule for the 42nd annual Festival, and if there was a connecting thread through this diverse lineup, it was that artistry always came first." -Cleveland ClassicalREAD MORE HERE

Winner of seven Grammy and five Latin Grammy Awards, Cuban pianist, composer, and arranger Chucho Valdés is the most influential figure in modern Afro-Cuban jazz. In a rich career spanning 60 years, Valdés has pushed boundaries in pursuit of new expressions in Afro-Cuban music. Valdés is perhaps best known as the founder, pianist, and main composer and arranger of Irakere, a landmark ensemble in Cuban music. Valdés led Irakere for more than 30 years, but since 2005 he has focused on his personal career, highlighting his work as a pianist and leading small ensembles, like the Afro-Cuban Messengers, Jazz Batá, and his acclaimed Quartet. Valdés is a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, has been inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, and received a DC Jazz Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jazz Fest Express Shuttle Info[Jan. 17th, 202004:01 pm]swag [Tagsshuttle]Gray Line operates the Jazz Fest Express shuttle service. These are the buses that run from downtown and City Park and drop off inside the festival gates. The price for this year is $22/person roundtrip from downtown, unchanged from last year. The two pickup spots from last year return, and new this year, they've added a third downtown pickup spot, the Hyatt House hotel near the Superdome.Steamboat Natchez Dock - Toulouse St. at the River
Sheraton New Orleans Hotel - 500 Canal St.
Hyatt House - 1250 Poydras St. (near Loyola Ave.)
Personally, I prefer taking the RTA city bus that drops 5 blocks from the fest, for $1.25 each way, but if you're staying near the pickup spots and want to avoid the extra walking, the shuttle may be a good option. There's also a City Park location that costs $16/person roundtrip, with free parking inlcuded. 5700 Wisner Blvd. on Google Maps (north of Filmore Ave.)
This may be the easiest solution if you're driving to the Fairgrounds, but since the cost is per person, with a full car, it may be cheaper to pay to park in the neighborhood surrounding the Fairgrounds. The Jazz Fest ticket sale website offers the downtown shuttle as an add-on, but do not buy your shuttle tickets on the fest ticket website. If you do, you'll pay an extra $3.81 service fee. Shuttle tickets bought directly from Gray Line, either by phone or in person, have no fees. One benefit of the shuttle that gets little attention is that buying a shuttle ticket optionally allows you to also buy a Jazz Fest ticket with no fees. If bought in advance, that ticket is at the advance price. I don't know if they'll have access to early bird pricing, and they won't have the 4 day weekend writbands.
